What is android?
Android is a modified version of the Linux Kernel and other software which was designed for touchscreen devices such as smartphones and tablets. The first beta version of the Android Software Development Kit was released in 2007 by google. The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released in September 2008. On 27th June, 2012 Google announced 4.1 Jelly Bean as the next Android version. Jelly Bean is an update, with the primary aim of improving the user experience, both in terms of functionality and performance. There are two source of android. They are 1. Open source (Linux), which means the copyright owner allows its use for any purpose, without any need for financial remuneration 2. Closed source (Apple's iOS), that means no one can use it unless the copyright holder. In this case Apple gives permission.
Types of Android Apps
Various user friendly android apps are invented. Educational, games, business, health and fitness, books are most common.
Evolution of Android
The first version of Android 1.0, was unveiled on September 23, 2008. Android 1.0 unveiled features internet browser, camera, Gmail synchronization with the Gmail application, YouTube, Google Maps and Calendar synchronization.
Later, Android 1.1, was launched on February 9, 2009, with updated. It was followed by Android 1.5 on April 27, 2009, and Android 1.6 on September 15, 2009. These versions were released on a time interval of 3 months unveiled.
Then Android launched the second major release Android 2 (Eclair) on October, 2009 with some attractive feature. Android 2.1 was released on January 12, 2010 and 2.2 was released on May, 2010 termed as Froyo.
After starting journey, at present Android has updated in 14 times and Android 12 is upcoming as fifteen. An image is given below for easily understand:
